This is the (moderately) Fresh edition from the drawing board, the first release of 2025, the MousePlow.
One of our partners has been pressuring us for a while to develop a variant of our ripper/strip-till unit that can combat field mice. Only after it was completed did we realize what a useful little device we had created.
The problem originates from no-till/regenerative farming areas, where it became clear that soil life doesn’t consist only of earthworms or bacteria; it encompasses all creatures of Mother Nature, including mice, hawks, and foxes. When the balance is disturbed, it can lead to phenomena such as an outbreak of rodents. It should be noted that this issue appears every 3-5 years in other farming systems as well, making the solution relevant there too.

So far, solutions to the problem have been limited. Treated seeds can be manually placed into rodent tunnels using an applicator. Surface application is prohibited, as other living beings consume the bait and die as well.
The BUSA MousePlow is a tool that creates artificial tunnels for rodents; the device places treated bait in small heaps inside the tunnels. Pests that enter the tunnels find and consume the poison, which kills them. Both the poison and the dead rodents remain underground.
The tool is a specialized ripper that doesn’t disturb the surface, as pest control typically needs to be carried out during the growing season. The ripper head must create a compact and stable tunnel while minimally lifting the surface. Meanwhile, the dispenser must distribute the bait unevenly but in an accurate amount. Although this might seem trivial, the process can fail in multiple areas. Application is carried out with two units, typically using spray paths, and the dose is adjusted accordingly.
The story is moderately fresh because we’ve already completed the first tests; the machine underwent trial operation in the fall and performed surprisingly well. We provided feedback on the results, and version 2.0 is already in progress.
